Community Putting Love into Action

The following organizations are using The Mystery of Love to inspire dialogue and explore the presence of love in their lives. These action-oriented community conversations will examine the diversity of love, motivate the development of "love in action" projects, and prompt participants to consider how love can improve their work. Civic Life International

Civic Life International is a team of African and American media and dialogue practitioners who believe in the possibilities for using media, education, dialogue and deliberation to strengthen the competencies of citizens, institutions, and governments. They intend to use The Mystery of Love to address race relations in their region. Their multi-phase plan includes a launch event that introduces The Mystery of Love to leaders in the community, as well as a multi-cultural dialogue designed to bring together citizens and authorities through dialogue and collaboration. All participants will be encouraged to replicate the dialogues in their communities, ultimately creating a ripple effect throughout the Dayton area.

Co-Intelligence Institute
Vancouver, Washington

The Co-Intelligence Institute works to further the understanding and development of co-intelligence and for the conscious evolution of culture in harmony with nature and with the highest human potentials.  Collaborations with local organizations will be developed to convene an initial series of World Café conversations focused on awakening our consciousness to the mystery of love already at work in our community. Subsequent dialogue rounds based on Open Space Technology will focus on developing opportunities to bring love into action within existing organizations and partnerships, and on co-creating new collaborative efforts.

Fort Worth Tarrant County Minority Leaders & Citizens Council
Fort Worth, Texas

The FWTCML holds weekly meetings that are broadcast over a local cable radio show. This local broadcast will not only be used to raise awareness in the community about The Mystery of Love, but it will also provide a platform for a range of community leaders to convene and discuss community concerns by incorporating segments from The Mystery of Love into the dialogue, these convening’s will encourage community members and leaders to consider how love is central to coalition-building and community problem solving.

Harmony
Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area

Harmony values and respects the cultural diversity of the people of Kansas City, a community that strives for a high quality of life for all, and one that celebrates the uniqueness of each individual. Harmony will invite members of religious and community groups to participate in The Mystery of Love dialogues, with a special focus on teen youth groups. These dialogues will emphasize how and why love motivates and sustains individual self-giving and community compassion.

Hope in the Cities’ goal and mission is to create just and inclusive communities through reconciliation among racial, ethnic, and religious groups based on personal and institutional transformation. They will be hosting two sustained dialogues with the interfaith council of greater Richmond.

Interracial Pastor’s Prayer Covenant Group

IPPCP is a group of interracial and multi-denominational religious leaders who dedicate their time together to share their struggles and successes as faith-based institutions in the community. They will use The Mystery of Love as a centerpiece of their regular meetings and will encourage members of their respective denominations to join through meetings to dialogue about love.

Namaste’ – Sacred Arts
Bloomington, Indiana

Nameste’-Sacred Arts is a center for growth that creates opportunities for healing and transformation. The Mystery of Love will be used to broaden perspectives about how we live "love" in our lives - and the power that love has to transform individuals, families, and larger communities. They plan to launch their activities with a screening of The Mystery of Love on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, in celebration of his work for love and justice.  At the event, they will facilitate dialogues, and encourage core participants to participate in a rippling effect where they go on to lead Mystery of Love discussions in their communities.

Regis University

Regis University is a 128 year old Jesuit University with the motto “Men and Women in Service of Others” on the University seal, describing the purpose of Jesuit education: to form men and women who use their knowledge in the unselfish service of others. The Las Vegas campus of Regis plans to organize a series of community dialogues around the topic of love and forgiveness as pertains to local community issues such as homelessness, immigration and crime. Local social justice, religious, and peace organizations will be invited to lay the groundwork for ongoing dialogues in the community. Regis’ Institute for the Common Good will provide facilitation training for the participating groups to ensure the groups are self-sufficient for maintaining ongoing dialogues.

Society of Saint Vincent DePaul
Sisters of Mercy

SVdP’s Catherine’s Center is a transitional home of safety and dignity for post-incarcerated women. In the fall of 2006 they will inaugurate a bi-weekly series of dialogue with residents and alumnae to examine the role of love in their lives. They will utilize this experience to train the participants to facilitate dialogues among the Ambassador-volunteers at their bi-monthly meetings in the Spring of 2007. Alumnae will be encouraged to offer the series to other transitional and treatment centers and/or write and produce their own ten-minute film based on their experience at Catherine’s Center. These films will then be used by Catherine’s Center in their ongoing community outreach to highlight the tragic recidivism rate and its potential solutions.

Sonoma State University
Sonoma State University Dialogue Center

During the fall 2006 semester, the Sonoma State Dialogue Center will use the experience of The Mystery of Love dialogues to train first-year students in facilitation skills. These students will then host dialogues for the Liberal Studies Association and the larger University community. During the spring 2007 semester, dialogues will be integrated into a “love and desire” course and will build toward a community action project.
